Police are looking for the car — an older-model green vehicle with a spoiler and a loud muffler — and asked that citizens keep an eye out for it, as well as for the driver, described as a balding white man.

Anyone with information about him or the car is asked to call borough police at 201.391.8222 or your local police department.

Schools Superintendent Peter Lisi sent a message to parents yesterday, urging them to “have a serious conversation with your child, no matter what age, about the dangers around them” and to “take a moment to practice what they should do if someone approaches them.”

Lisi asked that parents and children keep a lookout for the green car and call police if they see it — or apparently hear it.

Teachers discussed the situation with students yesterday, the superintendent said.

“Thankfully, our children are fine and they did the right thing to keep themselves safe,” he said. “With Halloween right around the corner, this is a very timely reminder.”
