A Miami-Dade grand jury indicted Rafael Toirac-Aguilera (left), 33, and he was quickly shipped south on Wednesday for a hearing the following morning, authorities said.

Sources with knowledge of the investigation told The Miami Herald that DNA found at the scene link him to the killing of Robert Yee, a 25-year Miami police veteran who retired in 1995.

Yee was driving a golf cart at the Hurricane Cove Marina, where he oversaw daily operations, when he was shot dead in July 2009.

Soon after, Toirac-Aguilera was arrested on a domestic violence charge that was dropped. He was later jailed in November in connection with a holdup in West New York, but those charges were dropped as well, said Hudson County Prosecutor Ed DeFazio.

According to the Herald: “Homicide investigators were checking whether Yee might have been targeted because he was sharing information with law enforcement about drug and migrant smuggling along the Miami River, sources said.”
