The grant to repair Central and Cross Street in the borough’s central core was one of only 25 Discretionary Aid awards from 100 applications, Guadagno said.

Both roads are frequently used as bypasses when traffic gets congested downtown, especially when the commuter train goes by during rush hours, she noted.

Borough officials made rebuilding the intersection a priority given the growing danger.

Borough Hall, the police department and fire headquarters are located on or intersect Central. George White Elementary School is less than a block away, with recreational fields nearby.
