An alert neighbor summoned police to the Williams Street home, where Lt. Matthew McClutchy said officers found a car reported stolen out of Teaneck in front and 20-year-old Jacob Gibbs inside the house, rifling an upstairs bedroom dresser, just after noon on Monday.
Gibbs bolted for a bathroom but was quickly caught, said McClutchy, the officer in charge of the department.
He was carrying stolen jewelry, cash, cellphone and wallets, along with a switchblade, burglary tools and a small amount of pot, the lieutenant said.
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence for processing.
Hillsdale and Emerson police also responded.
A judge ordered Gibbs held in the Bergen County Jail until a Nov. 14 court appearance on charges of burglary, receiving stolen property and possession of a weapon, drugs and burglary tools.
