County human services agencies are seeking donations, gifts and sponsorships in order to bring the warmth and love of the holidays to those too poor to afford adequate foor and clothing, much less gifts.
Among those involved is the Alternatives to Domestic Violence program, which hopes to provide gifts for children profoundly affected by violence at home, as well as food and clothing through an Adopt-a-Family program.
“We also serve children of low-income families in Bergen County through our Office for Children,” County Director of Human Services Jane Linter. “[We are] asking for donations of new toys and clothing to brighten this particularly difficult holiday for all the children in its care who receive subsidized assistance.”
What’s more, the Division of Disability Services distributes holiday baskets of food and toiletries to homebound, disabled Meals-on-Wheels clients, Bergen County Executive Kathleen A. Donovan said.
Meanwhile, the Division of Veterans Services provides gift certificates for food and other items to more than 100 veterans who are homeless, homebound or otherwise in need.
“With the support of the community, Bergen County residents served by our Human Services team will not be forgotten this holiday season,” Donovan said.
