Authorities all around credited teamwork of emergency service workers from in town and Westwood.
Borough Sgt. Dan McLaughlin and Officer Brian Considine, responding to a call of a man screaming at the end of dead-ended Magnolia Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, found the 24-year-old Wayne resident face down in the water.
Westwood police officers joined their colleagues in making their way to the injured victim, Detective Bill Diedtrich told Daily Voice.
Firefighters who rushed to the scene "made their way down the embankment, where they assisted in preparing the [victim] to be moved," the detective said.
"Using a Stokes basket and ropes, the Fire Department was able to safely move [him] back to the street, where he was placed in a waiting ambulance," Diedtrich said said.
The ambulance brought him to the landing area, and AirMed One took him to THackensack University Medical Center.
"Thanks to the great teamwork of the Hillsdale Fire Department, the Hillsdale Police Department and our mutual aid partners in Westwood, this incident had a successful resolution," Hillsdale Fire Chief Patrick Doody said.
Borough officials thanked Westwood police, firefighters and Ambulance Corps, as well as the HUMC paramedics.
