“Some may have the preconceived notion that a food pantry is for the homeless,” said PBA Spokesman Jeff Angermeyer, “but more often than not, [it] serves Pascack Valley families that are experiencing tough times — like the working poor, those living paycheck to paycheck, and those hit hard by this economic downturn.”
In order to continue serving nearly 400 area residents on Monday nights and the first Saturday of each month, the operation needs donations, said PBA President Chris Donaldson, who presented the check in Beechwood Park.
“This donation is our way of ensuring that those in our community who need the support of the food pantry can trust that help will be there,” Donaldson said.
Also known as the Hillsdale Food Pantry, the facility on the grounds of United Methodist Church is a non-profit cooperative among the health departments of Hillsdale and Westwood and the Hillsdale Christian Churches — including the United Methodist Church, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and the Pascack Bible Church.
