The 21-year-old driver sustained minor injuries in the 5:20 a.m. accident at Amelia Court, less than a half-mile south from Oradell Avenue, approaching Ridgewood Avenue, police said.

Those to his passenger, a 21-year-old from Emerson, were considered more serious, they said.

The northbound 2003 Honda Pilot first hit a “No Stopping/No Standing” sign, then a small tree, then the utility pole — splitting it into three pieces — before bouncing off the curb and coming to rest on Forest Avenue 375 feet down the road.

Although southbound Forest Avenue was opened several hours later, the northbound side remained closed as of 2 this afternoon, as utility crews remained at work.
