The homeowner had gone to the store when firefighters responded to the call Friday afternoon. On the stove a pot had boiled dry and a piece of cloth inside ignited, Fire Director Armando Roman told the Jersey Journal.
But the city’s bravest also found 60 to 80 half-gallon containers of fluid and an envelope with the president’s name on it. Next thing you knew, a simple fire call had turned into a federal case.
The surprised homeowner explained that he sells perfume, mixing the components at home.
James Mattola, assistant special agent in charge of the New Jersey Secret Service Office, wouldn’t give the Journal specifics, except to say there wasn’t any credible threat.
