Englewood police were on West Palisade Avenue near the Soldiers Monument — where five cars and the siding of a nearby house were torched — when the 911 call came in at 3:40 a.m. from a private home on Third Street, records show.

Another Englewood unit already was handling a separate arrest, so officers from Teaneck and Tenafly headed to the house.

There, they said, they found the residents struggling with 30-year-old Michael Bease Jr., a Montvale resident who used to live in Englewood.

Bease apparently slipped into the residence through an unsecured basement window while the residents were at home on the upper floors, police told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

One of them spotted him and called police.

Officers who took him into custody told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that he was carrying at least one iPhone taken from the home.

Bease is charged with burglary, theft and marijuana possession.

He was being transferred tonight from the Englewood city lockup to the Bergen County Jail, with bail set at $41,500 pending a Municipal Court hearing.
