The hydraulic line to the bucket ruptured, buckling the steel supporting structure, just before 1 p.m. at the Emerson Recreation Center Complex in Hillman Park, Emerson Police Chief Donald Rossi told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The arm bent roughly 90 degrees, the chief said.
“Fortunately, the employee had the proper harness and safety equipment on,” Rossi said.
“The Emerson Fire Department responded and was able to access the hanging bucket with a tower ladded,” he added. “They removed the individual without further incident.”
The 32-year-old worker from Iowa (inset, above) was evaluated by ALS and BLS units and declined medical attention, the chief said. Also responding were Rossi’s officers, Westwood EMS workers and a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
“All in all, a happy ending,” Rossi said. “That’s good news.”
