Police from Montvale, Park Ridge and Woodcliff Lake converged with NJ Transit police to snatch Ryan Barron, a Rockland Community College student who was graduated from Nanuet High School, two stops south of Pearl River.
Moments earlier, police said, his 1998 SUV struck a car in the parking lot of a Nanuet strip mall, sending it into two other cars — and hitting a man standing between them.
Barron, who police said had been drinking before the 10 a.m. crash, then drove two blocks from the South Middletown Road lot to the Nanuet station and boarded the train he was found on.
The witness, who saw the accident and followed Barron’s car to the Nanuet station, later identified him after police stopped the train in Montvale, then secured and boarded it.
Barron was taken to Clarkstown police headquarters, where he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with an injury, assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and DWI.
The victim, a 59-year-old Pearl River man, was taken to Nyack Hospital with injuries that police said were serious but not life-threatening.
Police said Barron was in a rush to catch a train to yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Manhattan when the crash occurred.
