The father of two worked for one of the country’s largest banks and was extremely active in the community.

His body was recovered Wednesday, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

Sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that he had cancer.

Montvale police got a call to do a security check on the distraught man just before 2:30 Sunday afternoon, but by then he’d made it to the bridge and climbed onto a southern rail, police sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Officers trained in talking to potential jumpers had him engaged for more than an hour, Pentangelo said. A friend who was there also tried to help, he said.

Eventually, the man jumped.
