Both women were taken into custody as backups arrived during the 5 p.m. melee yesterday outside Terminal A.
The 2006 Chevrolet Equinox was blocking two lanes of traffic when the officer signaled 24-year-old Nephatira T. Dansby of East Orange to move it, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said this morning.
“The driver began to shout and curse at the officer, refusing to move,” Pentangelo said.
Eventually she pulled to to side, blocking the taxi line, he said. The officer then knocked on the window and requested her license and registration.
Dansby “rolled her window down and opened her driver’s side door, striking the officer,” Pentangelo said.
She then “pushed her way out of the auto, striking the officer,” then “grabbed the officer about her arms and face,” he said.
Nephatira T. Dansby, Katrina Dansby, 41, also of East Orange, joined in after arriving on the scene — holding the officer while her daughter punched her several times, Pentangelo said.
The officer was taken to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth for treatment of face and knee injuries.
Police impounded the vehicle and charged both women with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction, resisting and disorderly conduct.
