300-Pound Bear Wanders Through Washington Township Backyards

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A 300-pound bear scavenging for food traipsed through several Washington Township backyards Friday night -- going as far as a backyard deck on one street -- before vanishing back into the woods.

"He was first spotted by Cleveland Avenue and then made his way to Stratford Court and across Woodfield to Devon Road," one responder told Daily Voice.

"Looks like he just came out of hibernation," the responder said. "He's hungry."

After mounting a deck on Woodfield Road, he circled back on Stratford Court toward Schlegel Lake.,

A game warden and Tyco Animal Control crew responded.
