Tri-Town Bergen American Legion Post Collects Backpacks For Homeless Vets

HILLSDALE, N.J. -- American Legion Post 162 of Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake, Old Tappan this Friday will present a collection of new backpacks and winter clothing donated for homeless veterans.

All items can be dropped off at the Legion Hut at 98 Legion Place, Hillsdale.

The campaign supports the Bergen County Tracers Program of the Division of Veteran Services in Hackensack.

"We are still sorting all the donated items," the American Legion's Zoltan Horvath told Daily Voice on Monday. "We are also happy to except gift cards from fast food outlets and or cash to buy more."

On any given night there are anywhere from 125 to 150 homeless veterans, male and female homeless, in Bergen County, he said.

"We are asking for donations of new backpacks, hoodie sweatshirts, winter hats, gloves, socks, underwear, hand and foot warmers, etc.," Horvath said.

Mens sizes: Large and extra large

Womens sizes: Large

ALSO: toothpaste, tooth brushes, deodorants, soaps, shampoos (small size), face and hand lotion, Chapstick, feminine hygiene products.

Donations of $10 gift certificates for Mc Donald’s, Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, Subway and Pizza Hut are welcomed.
