Anita Ehrler’s Dance Extensions of Park Ridge is uniting with the National iDance4aCURE Campaign for the event from 5-8 p.m. at her studio on Hawthorne Avenue.
More than 110 dancers from Bergen and Rockland counties have already raised more than $16,000 the past few weeks by pledging to dance three consecutive hours, Ehrler said.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital at Hackensack UMC, she said.
“We are thrilled to be uniting with committed dancers from across the nation," Ehrler said.
Cancer kills more children in the U.S. than any other disease.
On average, 7 children die of cancer and 43 are diagnosed -- per day, iDance4aCURE National Director Terre McFillen Hall said.
One of every five diagnosed will die, and the other four will have negative long-term effects from treatment, she said.
At the same time, Hall emphasized, a mere 4% of federal cancer funding is allocated to childhood cancer research.
"More needs to be done for our children," she said.
Since the first iDance4aCURE Marathon two years ago, iDance4aCURE has contributed more than $150,000 and gained national attention by uniting and educating dancers, choreographers, dance teachers, dance studios and schools from around the globe to become active advocates in the fight against childhood cancer.
