Sedan Slams Into Route 46 Gas Pump, Bursts Into Flames
A driver escaped serious injury after his sedan plowed into a pump and burst into flames at a Route 46 gas station. The 32-year-old driver from Englewood lost control of the two-door Infiniti, which crashed at the QuickCheck on the westbound highway -- near the entrances to Route 80 and the New Jersey Turnpike -- at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, Ridgefield Fire Chief David Brierty said. The attendant shut down the pump and called 911, the chief said. Ridgefield firefighters quickly doused the flames. Ridgefield's Finest, Bravest Team Up To Raise Money For Breast Cancer Research, Awareness
Ridgefield police and firefighters responded in full force, smashing homers and snagging flies, in a charity softball game to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research. Members donned customized T-shirts that were sold to boost the fundraising effort. The fire department and PBA Local 330 teamed up with the Ridgefield Athletic Organization to donate more than $2,750 to the Hackensack Meridian Health Theurer Cancer Center. : Pink Heals Rallies First Responders For Special Waldwick, Cliffside Park Boys
Two special young boys will be treated to a parade of first responders this Sunday in Waldwick, thanks to Pink Heals of Bergen County. Both Cole McKeon of Waldwick and Austin “AJ” Katchen of Cliffside Park were diagnosed months apart last year with Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that attacks certain types of nerve tissue. Before his first birthday, AJ had successful tumor resection surgery, the first of several operations. He’s also undergone chemotherapy that kept him hospitalized several months. UPDATE: A fire that began in a crawl space and eventually destroyed a Fort Lee apartment building Thursday night didn’t claim any lives, produced three minor injuries and didn’t appear suspicious, authorities announced. TRIBUTE: Ridgefield Firefighter Michael McLaughlin was 51 when he answered his final alarm: While operating the tower ladder at a two-alarm blaze in 1996, the 10-year department veteran suffered a fatal heart attack. Responders Rescue 100+ From Flooded Fairview Industrial Park
Firefighters rescued more than 100 people from a flooded Fairview industrial park on Tuesday. Responders used a backhoe and a High Water Rescue Vehicle brought by Ridgefield firefighters to evacuate the industrial park at 815 Fairview Avenue, Fairview Police Chief Martin Kahn said. Rain swelled creeks fed by the Hackensack River, flooding the area just off Broad Avenue.
