: Newark Archdiocese Permanently Closing 10 Schools In Three Counties
The Archdiocese of Newark said Thursday that it is closing a number of its schools in Bergen, Essex and Union counties -- and consolidating them into others -- at the end of the current school year. Factors considered in the closings included "declining enrollment numbers and increasing and unsustainable dependence on archdiocesan funding over time," the archdiocese said. "Consideration also was given to geographic locations and proximity to nearby matched archdiocesan schools that will accommodate new students." Newark Archdiocese Cemeteries Reopening Mother's Day For Limited Burials, Visitation
Gov. Phil Murphy's extension of the 30-day coronavirus state of emergency in New Jersey won't affect plans for Catholic cemeteries in Bergen, Hudson, Essex and Union counties to reopen for limited burials and visitation beginning on Mother's Day. Beginning this coming Monday, up to 10 family members will be permitted to attend a burial service (it's currently only two), the Archdiocese of Newark said.
