Victim Extricated, Seriously Injured In Route 80 Box Truck Crash (

An early-morning crash involving a box truck brought a large emergency response to Route 80 in Bergen County Friday, June 21. Firefighters were called to the westbound lanes at milepost 65.5 just after 3:20 a.m., where a Mercedes Benz had rear-ended a box truck, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron. Firefighters found the victim was pinned inside the vehicle, and worked to remove the roof and door of the car. The patient was stabilized and removed, then treated by EMS on scene. A police officer was treated for smoke inhalation and several guests reportedly required medical attention in a Christmas weekend fire at the Hilton Meadowlands just off the NJ Turnpike in East Rutherford. Multiple ambulances responded to 2 Meadowlands Plaza after garbage apparently caught fire on the third floor shortly before 9 a.m. on Christmas Eve. A machine left running while an East Rutherford plant was being evacuated for a chemical spill sparked a fire sending two people to the hospital with minor injuries Thursday, authorities said. A vapor cloud and fumes that people in the area said smelled like chlorine were reported at the Diamond Chemical Company around 1:30 p.m. Homes and businesses were evacuated in the area surrounding Diamond Chemical, located at the corner of East Union and Dubois Street. Firefighter Slammed Into Hawthorne Ambulance Accidentally, Police Say
UPDATE: No summonses were considered necessary after a volunteer firefighter headed to an alarm broadsided a Hawthorne ambulance with three squad members inside, knocking it over, police said Friday following the conclusion of an investigation. The ambulance had its lights and siren activated as it traveled north on Goffle Road to a medical emergency just after 11 p.m. last Friday, the police report says. No patients were aboard.
