Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera will be awarding the Crusader grappler -- who went an unprecedented 159-0 in his career -- with a plaque at in front of Borough Hall at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Suriano will also be presented with a certificate of excellence at the 8 p.m. Mayor and Council meeting.
"I watched Nick when he first started in the Paramus Recreation program," Mayor Rich LaBarbiera told Daily Voice. "It was obvious then that he was a special athlete and had a very promising future.
"As a result of his work ethic and perseverance, promising quickly became exceptional and his future turned out to be perfect."
It was "almost expected" when Suriano won his first state championship, the mayor said.
"But now that his high school career has come to an end, you cannot ignore the enormity and significance of his 159-0 record and four state championships -- something I cannot imagine being matched anytime soon," LaBarbiera said.
Suriano is headed to Penn State this fall to wrestle in the Big 10.
The Nittany Lions were 2016 NCAA National Champions under head coach Cael Sanderson.
Sanderson, who wrestled for Iowa State, went a perfect 159-0 in his collegiate wrestling career, capturing four NCAA titles.
"As Nick moves onto college the competition will be that much more fierce, but I am certain Nick will be up to the challenge," he said. "The community and I wish him nothing but the best -- and are so proud that he calls Paramus home."
