Fred Galea, 89, Longtime Oradell Resident

ORADELL, N.J. -- Longtime Oradell resident Fred Galea died Saturday, Jan. 30. He was 89.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Galea retired from the Ford Motor Company after 37 years as an accounting supervisor.

He was an avid parishioner of St Joseph’s Church in Oradell and a past grand knight of St. Joseph’s Council No. 3814 Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golf, food, a good joke and his New York sports teams.

Galea is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Theresa Finnegan; children James Galea, Teresa Smith, Patricia Gordon, Susan Fisher and Rosemary Sklar; brother Phil; and grandchildren Stephanie Galea, Douglas and Michael Smith, Christine and Patrick Gordon, Danielle Mentes, and Paige and Cody Sklar.

He was predeceased by his infant son, Paul Joseph; brother Ben; and sister Pauline Moore.

Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, and 5-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at the William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. There will be a Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at St. Joseph’s in Oradell. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
