NJ's Theresa 'Tess' Callaghan Dies Year After Cancer Diagnosis, 29
Theresa Callaghan, a 29-year-old Mount Olive native, died on Monday, Feb. 26 after battling brain cancer, according to her obituary.
Born in Cranford, Callaghan graduated from Mount Olive High School in 2012, her obituary reads. She graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in nutrition and dietetics and later achieved her master's in nutrition from St. Elizabeth University, according to her obituary.
Callaghan was diagnosed with brain cancer in March 2023, according to a fundraiser set up to support her medical bills. As of Thursday, March 7, more than $106,000 had been raised.…
Homeless Burglar Throws Rock Through Back Window, Finds Elmwood Park Resident Home: Police
A homeless career criminal who threw a rock through the back door of an Elmwood Park residence during an attempted burglary didn't realize someone was home, authorities said.
The homeowner was headed to work moments earlier when she spotted Tyler Demouth, 26, lurking around the neighborhood shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, June 2, Police Chief Michael Foligno said.
"She got a good look at him before she drove off," the chief said.
Soon after, police got a call from her adult son.
Demouth had thrown a large rock through the back door, shattering the glass, Foligno said.

A Morris County man spat at investigating officers and damaged a wall at police headquarters as he was being processed for an unrelated matter, authorities said.
Marcellis Smallwood, 18, was being processed at Mount Olive Township Police Headquarters on Flanders Drakestown Road in Budd Lake when he spat at officers numerous times around 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, authorities said.
Smallwood, of Flanders, also damaged a wall next to where he was sitting, township police said.

NJ Teacher Re-sentenced For Deadly Shooting Of Angelina Jolie's Former Bodyguard
Virginia Vertetis, infamously known as a “lady killer,” was sentenced to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison on Friday, according to a release by the Morris County police and court documents.
Vertetis, 59, of Mount Olive, NJ, was first investigated following the murder of her boyfriend Patrick Gilhuley, as CBS News reported during her trial in 2018.
Gilhuley, a retired New York Police Department officer and celebrity bodyguard for clients such as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, was found dead at their home at 2 Apollo Way in Flanders on March 3, 2014 just before 10 p.m.

Arson Units Probe Morris County House Fire
Arson units are investigating a fire that ravaged a Morris County home late Tuesday night.
The fire was spotted by a Chester Township patrol officer at 25 Lamerson Rd. in Chester Township just before 10:45 p.m., police said.
The blaze was extinguished by the Chester Township Volunteer Fire Department with help from fire companies in Peapack-Gladstone, Far Hills, Bernardsville, Liberty Corner, Pottersville, New Vernon, Ralston, Mendham Borough, Brookside, Fairmount, Flanders, Budd Lake and Randolph, police said.

Police: NJ, PA Pair Nabbed For Shoplifting Copper Wire From Morris County Lowe’s Stores
Two men accused of stealing copper wire from Lowe’s in Morris County were charged, authorities said.
Raul Lopez, 35, was identified as one of two men seen shoplifting the copper wire from the International Drive store in Flanders around 12:35 p.m. on March 11, Mount Olive police said.
Lopez, of Allentown, PA, was arrested following an investigation and charged with shoplifting.
The second suspect, Antonio D. Dewitt, 34, was found to be connected to the first incident after being jailed for shoplifting wire from a different Lowe’s store on March 19, police said.

A Morris County man was drunk when he crashed into another vehicle on Route 206 and gave police a fake name to avoid being identified, authorities charged.
Eusebio I. Cordova, 43, crashed near Route 206 and Main Street in Flanders around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Mount Olive police said.
During questioning, Cordova, of Netcong, showed signs of intoxication and subsequently failed field sobriety tests, police said.
Cordova’s passengers left in a taxi while a search of his vehicle turned up open alcohol containers, police said.

A Union County driver doing donuts in a Morris County Walmart parking lot was charged with underage DWI, authorities said.
Kyle Young, 20, was revving the engine of a blue BMW and doing "donuts" in the parking lot of Walmart in Flanders when officers stopped him around 7:45 p.m. Friday, Mt. Olive Township police said.
Young, of Hillside, failed a series of field sobriety tests, and later found to have been drinking, police said.
He was arrested and taken to headquarters, where police say he refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Police: Queens Man, 23, Tried Using Bogus Credit Card At Flanders Walmart
A Queens, NY man used a a fraudulent credit card when he attempted to pick up and pay for an order at Walmart in Flanders, authorities charged.
Mohammed S. Rahman, 23, visited the Walmart on International Drive S. and tried to pay for a pickup order on Sept. 5, Mount Olive Police said.
Further investigation revealed that Rahman was not authorized to use the card, police said.
He was arrested and charged with credit card fraud, conspiracy to commit credit card fraud, criminal attempt and theft by deception.
Rahman was released pending an appearance in court.
Paterson PD Works Both Sides Of Street, Seize Raw Heroin, Cocaine, Shotgun
Paterson police raided two homes directly across the street from one another, arresting two ex-cons and five alleged buyers while seizing raw and packaged heroin, cocaine and a sawed-off shotgun.
Members of the Paterson Narcotics Division also seized $568 in suspected proceeds during the simultaneous Monday afternoon strikes, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.
