Missing NJ Boater Reunited With Family After Week Adrift
A boater out of Jersey City was reunited with his family last week after he went missing sailing to Bermuda, the Coast Guard said. No one had heard from the mariner since Monday, Nov. 6, and the Coast Guard Atlantic Area command center began a search and rescue effort, the Coast Guard said. Another ship, the Time Bandit, heard an alert, and on Wednesday, Nov. 15, found a vessel that matched the description of the missing boat, the Coast Guard said. Holy Mackerel! This is no fish tale. New Jersey Fish & Wildlife has officially certified the catch of a new state record saltwater fish. Three Jersey Shore beaches were placed under swimming advisories by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for high levels of fecal bacteria. A petite but potent jellyfish is hiding in New Jersey waters, naturalists warn. The Clinging Jellyfish, officially dubbed the Gonionemus vertens, was collected last month by naturalist Naturalist Jesse Amesbury at Skimmer Tours during a trip in the Cape May area. A 16-year-old lifeguard from Pennsylvania died after a boating accident on the Jersey Shore. Norman V. Inferrera III, of Phoenixville, PA, was rowing a lifeguard boat in the ocean when the vessel was broadsided by a wave and flipped over on the Reading Avenue Beach in Cape May Aug. 19, police said.
