Update: Route 9W Closed After Pickup Slams Into Pole A driver from the West Coast was hospitalized after he crashed his new pickup truck into a utility pole on Route 9W in Englewood Cliffs, downing wires and forcing the entire road closed, authorities said. The 36-year-old resident of Santa Cruz, CA was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center after his 2023 Ford F150 crashed on Sylvan Avenue just south of Sherwood Avenue shortly before midnight Monday, Aug. 14, Englewood Cliffs Police Detective Lt. Wires were strung across Sylvan Avenue after the pole split in two and fell onto the road in the mid-morning crash north of Charlotte Place, borough police Detective Lt. Ronald Waldt said. The driver, a 20-year old Cliffside Park man, complained of pain, but he and his apparently uninjured 19-year-old male passenger from Cresskill both declined medical attention at the scene, Waldt said.
