Johnnie Pacheco, 48, admitted removing the front wheel and replacing it with another at a chained rack at the square on Thursday.

Port Authority police reviewed surveillance images of the theft, identified Pacheco and grabbed him as he rode another bike at the intersection of Bergen and Duncan avenues last night, PAPD spokesman Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Of his 20 prior arrests, 14 were for offenses are related to burglaries, theft  or robbery and one for weapons possession, records show.

Pacheco, of Bergen Avenue, was charged with theft in this case and released on a summons.

The square has been the site of several thefts and attempted thefts of bicycles secured by commuters, so authority police are cracking down.
