John ‘Charlie’ C. MacKinnon, 91, Of Norwood

NORWOOD, N. J. -- John ‘Charlie’ C. MacKinnon, 91, of Norwood, died Feb. 15, 2016.

A veteran of World War II and recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the French Legion of Honor, he was a proud member of the Society of Third Infantry Division and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. 

He was born in New Brunswick, Canada and resided in Norwood for 60 years. 

MacKinnon loved to watch the ponies race and play golf. 

He was predeceased by his wife Thea (Cerbasi); his sister Dorothy MacKinnon; and son Chris J. Becker. 

He is survived by his sister Bernice DePalma and husband Jim; his daughters, Robin E. Wilson and partner Nick Lebruna, Donna Skorka and husband Ray; sons, John C. MacKinnon Jr., William C. MacKinnon and his wife Maura; seven grandchildren, Steven and Tim Wilson, Neil and Melissa Skorka, Blayne, Caleigh, Liam and Patrick MacKinnon; and his great-granddaughter Harper Rose MacKinnon. 

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans or The Military Order of the Purple Heart.
