23 Small Aftershocks Reported By USGS In 23 Hours After New Jersey Earthquake
The USGS is reporting 23 aftershocks in the 23 hours since the New Jersey earthquake that rattled the Northeast. The initial earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 and was reported in Whitehouse Station at 10:23 a.m. Friday, April 5. Tremors were felt by more than four million people from Maryland to New Hampshire. The first aftershock was reported just under an hour later at 11:20 a.m. 6 km NNE of Whitehouse Station with a magnitude of 2.0. PA Man Steals $40K In Jewelry From Morris County Home: Police
A 34-year-old man from Albrightsville, Pa. man was arrested and charged on Thursday, Feb. 15 after he stole $40,000 in jewelry from a house in Morris County, NJ police said. The man, who was not identified by Washington Township police, was arrested after an investigation into the theft from a Long Valley home, officers said. The man was charged with theft in the third degree, police said.

A community in New Jersey is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old high school student and twin, who died in a weekend crash. Isabella Todaro, a senior at Hackettstown High School, was identified in a GoFundMe as the victim of the Long Valley crash on Saturday, Oct. 7. Two people were hospitalized following a head-on crash in Morris County, authorities said. The Long Valley First Aid Squad responded to the crash with EMS and Rescue 1 and 2 in Long Valley during the afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Long Valley Fire Company No. 1 tended to a fluid spill while EMS crew members treated two patients at the scene and transported them to nearby hospitals, the squad said. Emergency crews were quick to douse a lawnmower fire that spread through a quarter-acre of woods in Hunterdon County, authorities said. The Fairmount Fire Company No. 1 in Long Valley responded to the blaze in the woods near Old Turnpike and Wildwood Roads in Tewksbury Township on Friday, April 15, the department said. Crews found the lawnmower fully engulfed in flames that had spread to a compost pile and a quarter-acre of woods nearby. A Morris County accountant has been charged after police say he defrauded a victim out of $3,100. The victim told Washington Township Police that the accountant was hired to help the victim file a tax amendment in July 2021, authorities said. The victim gave the accountant the amendment fee of $3,100 but after following up learned that the accountant never filed the amendment and instead pocketed the money, police say. The accountant — a Long Valley man whose name was not released — was charged with theft by deception and is scheduled to appear in Morris County Superior Court.

A 59-year-old woman was hospitalized after being hit by a car in Morris County, authorities said. The woman, a Long Valley resident, was hit in the parking lot of the Washington Township Municipal Building on Schooleys Mountain Road just before 9:20 a.m. Friday, police Lt. A raid of a Hackettstown home turned up more than 1,600 bags of heroin and cocaine, resulting in charges for five residents and both homeowners. A March 4 search of 14 Laurie Terrace turned up 1,613 wax folds of suspected heroin and 47 small bags of suspected cocaine, Hackettstown police said. A 28-year-old worker was airlifted with serious injuries Wednesday evening after falling approximately 20 feet from the roof of a Long Valley home onto a deck below. The man fell from the roof of the Waldon Road home around 5:30 p.m. and landed on a deck underneath, Washington Police Lt. Mark Niemynski told Daily Voice. A Morris County man was stabbed and seriously injured during a dispute outside Hackettstown Medical Center on Friday night, authorities said.
