Stephen Corcoran, 51 of Morris Plains, pled guilty to four counts of sexual assault in August 2018 for separate acts of penetration committed between 1997 and 1999, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
“The Defendant held a trusted leadership role in his community and chose to abuse his power by hurting innocent children," Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said. "The past cannot be changed, however we hope that this sentence brings some closure to the victims.”
Corcoran in 2012 was charged with abusing two of the scouts and indicted the following year of abusing all three. He is already serving a seven-year stint in state prison after being convicted on 11 charges in a different child pornography case from 2017.
The child pornography case came to light in November 2011, when a former boy scout told law enforcement officials that he had been sexually assaulted by Corcoran, his former assistant scoutmaster, while he was a juvenile.
During the investigation that ensued, two other scouts disclosed they were sexually assaulted by Corcoran in the 1990s, when they each were juveniles. One of the victims disclosed a course of abuse that occurred over several years, the prosecutor said.
Corcoran's 10-year conviction will run concurrent to the child pornography convictions, the prosecutor said.
