Deborah Baskerville, 38, of Galloway, and Shonte Hall, 36, of Egg Harbor City, were facing charges, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said in a news release on Tuesday, Mar. 26. Their arrests came after an investigation into a theft at Complete Care at Shrewsbury, a skilled nursing facility on Avenue at the Common.
Shrewsbury police investigated a theft at the nursing home on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023. Investigators said Baskerville used Hall's identity and nursing license to work a shift.
Baskerville was accused of taking 10 oxycodone pills worth about $200 from a locked medicine cart and replacing them with allergy pills. Baskerville turned herself in to police in February 2024 and Hall surrendered several weeks later.
Baskerville was charged with third-degree impersonation under a false identity, third-degree unlicensed practice of medicine under a false identity, third-degree theft by deception, third-degree theft of a controlled dangerous substance, fourth-degree unlicensed practice of medicine, and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit theft by deception.
Hall was charged with two fourth-degree offenses: conspiracy to commit theft by deception and conspiracy to commit unlicensed practice of medicine.
Baskerville and Hall had their first appearances in superior court and were released from custody. Prosecutors said Baskerville may have committed similar thefts at other medical facilities across the state because Hall worked for a nursing company that outsourced its services.
