Update: Jackson Man, 30, Killed In Crash On I-195

UPDATED: An Ocean County man died in a two-car crash on Interstate-195 westbound near Six Flags Great Adventure in Monmouth County early Wednesday, authorities said.

Mario Shehata, 30, of Jackson was killed when the Honda Accord he was driving on I-195 eastbound crossed over the center median and collided with an Infiniti driven by Richard Carter, 37, of Farmingdale headed westbound, according to updated information from New Jersey State Police..

All westbound lanes of I-195 were closed for more than five hours as state troopers investigated the crash scene

First responders were called at 6:45 a.m. on reports of the interstate crash near Route 537 in Jackson Township, said Sgt. Philip Curry, a NJSP spokesman.. Curry confirmed that one person was pronounced dead near mile-marker 13.4. 

There also was an initial scanner report of a minor crash with no injuries in the eastbound lanes of I-195 at 6:58 a.m. Details were not immediately available on that crash in which one vehicle reportedly rear-ended another, state troopers said.

Traffic on both sides of the interstate was delayed as EMS, police and firefighters arrived, they said.

All westbound lanes of Interstate-195 remained closed between Exit 16 in Jackson Township and Exit 11 in Upper Freehold, as of 11:45 a.m., they said.
