Virginia Man Indicted In Sayreville Councilwoman's Slaying: Prosecutor

A 29-year-old man from Virginia has been indicted in the fatal shooting of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour

Rashid Ali Bynum, of Portsmouth, Virginia was indicted on Wednesday, Aug. 16, by a Middlesex County grand jury for first-degree murder and weapons offenses, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.

On Feb. 1, at approximately 7:22 p.m., authorities received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of Samuel Circle, in the Parlin section of Sayreville.

Sayreville Police Department responded to the scene. Police found town Councilwoman Dwumfour, 30, of Sayreville, in her vehicle. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Dwumfour succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

On May 30, Bynum was arrested and charged with the murder of Dwumfour. Bynum was taken into custody outside a residence in Chesapeake, Virginia without incident. 

On July 27, Bynum was extradited to New Jersey and continues to be held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional facility.
