At approximately 9:30 a.m., East Brunswick police responded to the school on Cranbury Road for the report of a fight, police said.

Prior to police arrival, it was reported that the fight dispersed in multiple directions, according to Lt. Jason Fama, a department spokesman.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed into lockdown until the incident was de-escalated and brought under control," Fama told Daily Voice.

There were no reported injuries or arrests made, Fama said.

The high school was initially put in lockdown but was quickly de-escalated to a shelter-in-place, Superintendent Victor Valeski said in a statement.

The fight originated as a result of a dispute between two students, Valeski said.  "Student agitators expanded the conflict to other parts of the building," he said.

No weapons were involved, he said.

"East Brunswick Public Schools has a zero tolerance for any disruptive behavior," Valeski said. "The safety of our students, staff and community members remains our top priority."

An administrative investigation will be conducted by school administrators, Fama said.
