A Jersey Shore native who became the highest-ranking officer in the Marines has died, the military branch said. Retired Gen. Alfred Gray Jr. died on Wednesday, Mar. 20 after "a brief stay in hospice care," the U.S. Marines Corps announced. He was 95 years old. Gray Jr. was the 29th commandant of the Marine Corps from 1987 to 1991. Sports Cameraman Killed In Cape May Boating Accident: 'Great Man, Better Friend'
The 45-year-old boater killed this week in Cape May Harbor is being mourned by those who knew him. Christopher W. Heitman, a longtime camera operator for various news networks, was operating a 17-foot Sea Hunt struck a pipe that broke free from its mooring and entered the channel around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, New Jersey State Police said. Heitman and passenger were ejected, police said. While the passenger was able to get back on the boat, Heitman was not. His body was later recovered. A man who advertised fake New Jersey temporary vehicle registrations for sale on Facebook was caught peddling them in the parking lot of a strip mall in Glen Rock. Photographer Boyd A. A medical helicopter heading to Philadelphia from Maryland crashed Tuesday in Delaware County, according to sources and developing news reports.
