Hunter Finds Human Skull In South Jersey Forest: State Police State police are investigating after a human skull was found in a state forest in Ocean County, authorities said. Troopers responded to Brendan T. Byrne State Forest in Manchester Township at around 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, according to a state police spokesperson. Police had received a report of a hunter who discovered "human remains." The Byrne State Forest is the second largest state forest at more than 38,000 acres, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection. 246-Acre Wildfire Fully Contained In South Jersey A 246-acre wildfire in Burlington County is now fully contained, authorities said. The Acorn Hill Wildfire at the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest was 100 percent contained as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said. Forest Fire Service staff will remain on scene and continue to monitor control lines and address areas of concern until significant precipitation occurs to ensure public safety.
