Hunter Finds Human Skull In South Jersey Forest: State Police
State police are investigating after a human skull was found in a state forest in Ocean County, authorities said. Troopers responded to Brendan T. Byrne State Forest in Manchester Township at around 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, according to a state police spokesperson. Police had received a report of a hunter who discovered "human remains." The Byrne State Forest is the second largest state forest at more than 38,000 acres, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection. Lightning strikes from two storms caused two recent wildfires in Burlington County, authorities said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reached that conclusion in the Flatiron Wildfire, which burned over 210 acres in Medford, and the Acorn Hill Wildfire, which was contained Tuesday, June 20 after it destroyed 246 acres of the Brendan T. 246-Acre Wildfire Fully Contained In South Jersey
A 246-acre wildfire in Burlington County is now fully contained, authorities said. The Acorn Hill Wildfire at the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest was 100 percent contained as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said. Forest Fire Service staff will remain on scene and continue to monitor control lines and address areas of concern until significant precipitation occurs to ensure public safety.

A 200-acre wildfire in Burlington County closed several hiking trails and encroached on campgrounds Monday evening, June 19. The Acron Hill Wildfire at the Brendan T. A wildfire in Brendan T.
