A major multi-threat storm originating in the Midwest is expected have a variety of impacts on the East Coast which could threaten travel at the start of Thanksgiving week. Meanwhile, a separate system that could get a boost from Tropical Storm Sara may arrive around the same time. A cold front that accompanied a potent storm system that caused power outages throughout the region has ushered in cold temperatures and will be followed by another round of gusty storms. A breezy and chilly day is in store to start the first day of December as strong high pressure begins to build in from the west, according to the National Weather Service. High Winds Knock Power To Thousands Of New Jersey Residents
High winds toppled trees and power lines across New Jersey, leaving tens of thousands of residents in the cold, authorities said. More than 25,000 electric customers were without power early Monday afternoon, according to the Garden State’s major utility companies. JCP&L reported the most outages as of 3:20 p.m. Those were in Morris (975), Ocean (1,250) and Sussex (1,083) as of 3:20 p.m. Winds of more than 30 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph helped plunge temperatures down into the 30s. Storms Could Bring Heavy Rain, Strong Winds To Area
Scattered thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and strong winds to the area, according to the National Weather Service. The thunderstorm chance begins early Thursday evening and will continue through 2 a.m. Friday. Friday will start with a slight chance of showers in the morning, followed by the possibility of another round of thunderstorms in the afternoon on a day in which the high temperature will be in the low-80s.
