A police officer from Hudson County has purportedly been charged with DWI, according to authorities and various news reports. Mauricio Garces, a 34-year-old Secaucus resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Sunday, July 2, Secaucus Police said. Garces has been a police officer in Union City since 2019. At 3:03 a.m., police observed a car stopped in a lane of traffic in the area of Secaucus Road and County Avenue, officers said. The driver of the vehicle was found to be sleeping, police said. A 73-year-old Union City man was killed while on the job after he was struck by a vehicle on the morning of Monday, June 5, while working for the Department of Public Works, authorities said. Fortunato Rojas-Solis was struck in the area of Palisade Avenue and 36th Street, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Authorities have release preliminary details in a double stabbing that left a teen boy dead and another seriously hurt in Union City this week. Five teens were involved in a fight at 40th Street and Bergenline Avenue around 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
