Driver Extricated, Hospitalized After SUV Slams Into Downtown Ramsey Jewelry Store A driver was extricated by firefighters and hospitalized with serious injuries early Saturday after a large SUV slammed into a jewelry store in Ramsey's downtown business district. It was shortly before 7 a.m. May 13, when the Mercedes-Benz GLS smashed through the front of Apolo Jewelers, between Bici Restaurant and a Delta gas station at Main and Arch streets. The vehicle obliterated the entire front of the business, smashing cases and ripping off portions of the facade. Both his lower left leg and part of his right foot were amputated after he was knocked over the highway divider, they said. Bergen Driver, 73, Struck By His Own SUV A 73-year-old driver from Upper Saddle River was hospitalized after he was struck by his SUV on Thanksgiving, authorities said. The victim had gotten out of what he thought was his parked 2020 Land Rover near the corner of Lake Street and Pheasant Run when it began rolling and the driver's side door hit him shortly before 6 p.m., Detective Capt. Edward Kane said. Police found the victim conscious and alert with a hip injury, Kane said. Members of the Ramsey Ambulance Corps took him to Hackensack University Medical Center.
