Authorities ID Cabbie, Fare Killed In Elizabeth Police Chase Crash
Authorities officially identified a cab driver and passenger who were both killed when a sedan driven by a suspect fleeing police crashed head-on into the taxi at an Elizabeth intersection. Juan Carlos Albear, 54, who was behind the wheel, and Ysabell Gonzalez, 63, were killed in the violent collision at Grand Street and Routes 1&9 shortly before 6 a.m. last Dec 10. Shanita Rose, a 40-year-old Newark resident was arrested on Friday, Nov. 3 for carjacking a vehicle with a child inside on Tuesday, Oct. 31, resulting in an AMBER Alert being issued, authorities said. At 8:13 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Wilson Avenue after a 2017 silver-colored Hyundai Sonata was carjacked, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. As police canvassed the area, the AMBER alert was issued at 9:55 a.m., Fragé said. A 14-year-old boy whose passenger was carrying a pet parakeet in his backpack led Paramus police on an overnight stolen car chase that ended with a crash down a Hackensack dead end. Trapped Victims Hospitalized After Route 78 Crash
Two people were hospitalized after a single-car crash on Route 78 on Tuesday, Oct. 11, authorities said. Firefighters removed the driver and passenger in the Hyundai Sonata that ran off the roadway near Exit 36 and struck. tree just before 10 a.m. on the westbound side in Warren Township, New Jersey State Police Sgt. A 90-year-old driver refused medical attention after crashing his brand new sedan into a Hackensack high-rise Thursday morning, police said.
