𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: A special needs man was killed and his father was critically injured when they were struck by a sedan Sunday night in Fair Lawn, authorities said.
Matthew Ritter, 30, and his dad, John J. Ritter, 61, both of Wyckoff, were leaving an event at the Knights of Columbus when they were struck while crossing Maple Avenue by a 2010 Lincoln Town Car driven by an 81-year-old Hawthorne man at 7:32 p.m. Jan. 28, Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Fair Lawn police who interrupted an overnight burglary captured one of the fleeing bandits after he hopped into the Passaic River, authorities said.
The burglars scattered as police arrived at the corner of Fair Lawn Avenue and River Road shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, Sgt. Eric Eleshewich said.
It was around 6:30 a.m. when officers spotted one of them about a quarter-mile up River Road, the sergeant said.
Seeing them, he ran down to the river, where the officers captured him, Eleshewich said.

Retired State Trooper Suffered Medical Episode Before Route 287 Crash: Family, Police
The driver who died in a crash on Route 287 in Morris County this week has been identified as retired New Jersey State Trooper Kevin Hanrahan.
Hanrahan, 61, was heading north near milepost 31.4 in Harding Township around 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, when he ran off the road to the left and struck a metal guardrail, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said.
Hanrahan was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, Marchan said. Hanrahan's son, Kevin, said he had suffered a medical episode.
