Irish Traveler Posing As Repairman Tears Hole In Glen Rock Resident's Roof: Police
A con man contractor was charged by Glen Rock police after he and an accomplice ripped a hole in a residentโs roof, authorities said.
Jimmy Jones, 42, and his partner knocked on the victimโs door, unsolicited, claiming to be contractors who could tend to what appeared to be necessary roof repairs, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
The victim reviewed a handout, agreed to an estimate and then went inside, the chief said.
Moments later, the resident heard banging on the roof and hustled outside to find the two on the roof, which suddenly had a hole in it, Ackermann said.

Scam ALERT: Glen Rock Homeowner Loses $27,400 As Home Repair Con Men Prep For Spring
A roof repair scam cost a Glen Rock resident $27,400, prompting the borough police chief to warn citizens against con men who come to the door.
Two visiting scammers who claimed to be from Nassau County, on Long Island, offered to repair a partially damaged section of one victimโs roof for $3,400, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
No sooner had they begun their work than they suddenly โdiscoveredโ that the damage was โmore extensive than originally thought,โ the chief said.
They asked for an additional $24,000 and the resident subsequently wired them the money, he said.

A 16-year-old driver with her learnerโs permit was hospitalized after a pinball crash in Glen Rock flipped their SUV, authorities said.
Her father told police she was out practicing with him when she made a right too wide off Maple Avenue and their Honda CR-V struck a vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Rodney Street shortly before noon Saturday, Dec. 16, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
