The crash happened just before 6 a.m. at Maple Avenue, taking down an electrical pole that had a transformer, city officials and the DOT site shows. Police are requesting motorists and pedestrians avoid the area.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes, north of Exit 142 in Irvington just before 9 a.m. DOT traffic cameras show a flatbed truck towing the vehicle from the scene.

Fiery Accident Shuts Rt. 7 In Kearny A section of Rt. 7 in Kearny was closed Wednesday morning because of a downed utility pole caused by a motor-vehicle crash hours earlier.  The lanes were closed in both directions between Schuyler Avenue and Ridge Road, according to the DOT.  A witness who saw the accident early this morning and other witnesses quoted in a published report said a woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
