A New York man admitted he was drunk while underage, speeding, and ran a red light before crashing into and killing a police officer as she drove to work, prosecutors announced on Thursday, June 11.
Matthew Smith, now 21, of Hauppauge, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and numerous related charges for the Jan. 31 crash that killed Officer Patricia Espinosa and seriously injured his passenger, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.

Married Couple Killed After Car Overturns Into New Jersey Lake: State Police
A married couple died in a Labor Day crash when their vehicle overturned into a New Jersey lake after colliding with a pickup truck, authorities said.
A 21-year-old Tabernacle man was heading south on Route 206 in a Ford F350 when it collided with a Toyota heading west and driven by John E. Hawley, 66, of Marlton, just before 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, New Jersey State Police Tpr. II Christopher Postorino said.
After the impact, the Toyota, also carrying Theresa Hawley, overturned into Atsion Lake, Postorino said.

Fleeing Wrong-Way Driver Crashes Into Tractor Trailer, Minivan On Route 17 (Update)
A wrong-way driver fleeing police slammed into multiple vehicles on Route 17 late Friday, Aug. 22, injuring four people, authorities said.
At approximately 10:54 p.m., a 64-year-old man from New City, NY, entered Route 17 North from Hollywood Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus by traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, Ridgewood Police Capt. Glenn Ender said.
Near Race Track Road in Ridgewood, the Honda HR-V collided with a tractor trailer and a Honda Odyssey van, among other vehicles. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to break through the concrete center median.

A 40-year-old man was arrested after a DUI crash outside police headquarters in Rochelle Park that sent a 27-year-old woman to the hospital, authorities said.
The collision happened Friday, Aug. 8, at 12:51 p.m. on West Passaic Street in front of police headquarters, according to Rochelle Park Police Capt. James DePreta.

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Bergen County on Friday afternoon, August 1, authorities said.
The accident occurred around 4:51 p.m. on Pascack Road in Woodcliff Lake, near the intersection of West Hill Road, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office's Deputy Chief of Detectives, Jeff Angermeyer.
