Police: Accomplice Of Package Thief Who Attacked Postal Carrier In Englewood Surrenders
UPDATE: The accomplice of a man who mugged a postal carrier in broad daylight on a busy downtown Englewood street last month surrendered after learning that he was wanted, authorities said. Christopher Sosa Lopez, 28, whose most recent address is in Englewood, was charged with robbery in connection with the Feb. 10 assault, Capt. Fred Pulice said. Lopez had driven Ronald A. Benitez Santana, a 31-year-old Dominican national who lives in the Bronx, to the postal annex on Smith Street earlier that day, Pulice said. : Postal Carrier Accosted By Package Thief On Downtown Englewood Street
SEE ANYTHING? An Englewood postal carrier escaped serious injury Thursday in a knockdown, broad-daylight struggle with a strong-arm robber now being sought by police. The assailant was so intent on intercepting a particular package that he apparently staked out the local postal annex earlier in the day and then took cellphone photos of the contents of the carrier's truck while it was parked outside a downtown residential/commercial building on West Palisade Avenue. An employee at the Towne Centre at Englewood alerted the carrier to the stranger, Police Lt. Fred Pulice said. "Can I help you…

Serial Bergen Mailbox Fisher Caught, Again, On Jersey Shore: Report
Police in Monmouth County caught a pair of men stealing mail -- one of whom has had other New Jersey run-ins with the postal service. Ricky Javier, of Hackensack, and Kaseem Kid, of Lyndhurst, were busted taking mail right out of dropboxes in Ocean township, News12 reports. They were found with several pieces of mail inside their vehicle and a glue-like substance on them, the outlet said. Both were charged with burglary and theft. Police recovered mail from other municipal mailboxes including Middletown and Atlantic Highlands, News12 says. Police reportedly found the sam…

Fair Lawn Detective Continues To Nail Mailbox Check Thieves
He did it again: A Fair Lawn detective continues to bust people cashing checks stolen from a local post office drop box. Once again, the missing item -- a cashier's check for $6,600 -- had been mailed at the Radburn Post Office. And once again, Detective Paul Donohue traced it. Donohue arrested 20-year-old Miguel Ortiz of Paterson, who "admitted to cashing the check into an ATM machine for another [person]," Sgt. Brian Metzler. Ortiz was released pending a court hearing on charges of theft by deception and receiving stolen property. Meanwhile, an investigation was continuing. In recent …

Thefts Continue: Drop Boxes Pried Open, Mail Stolen In Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Midland Park
Someone used a crow bar to pry open a postal drop box in front of the Ridgewood Post Office on Ridgewood Avenue over the weekend. This time, though, the thieves left nearly a dozen pieces of mail behind. It was the second time in a week that bandits hit that same box in front of the East Ridgewood Avenue post office. Two other drop boxes on North Walnut Street, next to the post office, were broke into, as well. Another two were discovered broken into on Monday -- one at the corner of East Ridgewood Avenue and Cottage Place, the other on Cottage Place in front of the Ridgewood Board of Educ…

More Checks Reported Stolen, Cashed From Postal Boxes In Glen Rock, Fair Lawn
More victims have come forward to report checks stolen -- and later cashed -- from mailboxes outside post offices in Glen Rock and Fair Lawn, authorities said. Several other towns have had similar incidents in recent weeks. The latest reports came from a Glen Rock man who mailed a $3,101.56 check from the collection box outside the Glen Avenue post office on Nov. 11 only to have it cashed by thieves, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. Another resident who mailed three checks totaling $897.17 on the same day also had those stolen and cashed, the chief said. These were added to rep…
