UPDATE: A firefighter and a police officer saved the life of a junior firefighter when he was critically injured in an explosion behind a Ridgefield Park restaurant, authorities said Monday. The 17-year-old Ridgefield Park High School senior remained in stable but critical condition following several surgeries at Hackensack University Medical Center, they said. UPDATE: A firefighter sustained a minor injury during a blaze that ripped through a multi-family, mixed-use Garfield building late Friday into Saturday. Firefighter Injured In Paterson House Blaze
A firefighter was hospitalized with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening after he slipped and fell battling a Paterson house fire on Monday, authorities said. The firefighter was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center after being injured in the 22nd Street fire. The blaze broke out on the second floor of the home and was quickly knocked down. An 84-year-old woman died and a firefighter was injured in a Jersey City house fire Thursday morning, authorities said. Firefighters were met by heavy flames and smoke when responding to 270 Clerk St., around 10:45 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The two-alarm blaze was confined to the second floor of the home, where the woman was found unresponsive in her bedroom, Suarez said. Two families were displaced and one firefighter injured in an early-morning fire Friday that tore through a Newark home. Firefighters responded to the 3-story wood frame home at 382 Leslie St., where a kitchen fire had spread to the second and third floors around 6 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. The Atlantic City firefighters union has filed a lawsuit saying the city took an "ineffective approach" to handling the COVID-19 pandemic after 65 firefighters were exposed to the virus.
