Woman slashed, raped, Bergen authorities say

A struggle over a knife in front of three young children left a Hackensack waiter jailed on $500,000 bail and a woman treated for a stomach cut. Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli and Teaneck Police Chief Robert A. Wilson said Cesar Gallego, 37, later frightened her into having sex with him.

This led to charges of rape, in addition to aggravated assault, criminal restraint, weapons possession and child endangerment, against Gallego.

Wilson said his department got a 911 call from the woman’s oldest child shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday. The woman told them Gallego threatened to harm himself, first pulling out what authorities said was an aerosol gun. Then, she said, he pulled a knife.

They struggled, the woman told police, and he ended up getting slashed on his arm, while she ended up with the stomach cut.

After being treated at Holy Name Hospital, they returned to her home, where, she said, she complied with his demand for sex “to keep [him] calm and due to the fear she had” of him, according to a police report.

Gallego is due in Teaneck Municipal Court at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
