The worker had finished her shift and planned to do some shopping when she came out to get a cart and was struck, sustaining “very serious injuries,” Police Chief Frank Regino told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. She was flown by AirMed One to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The driver, a 75-year-old woman from New Milford, had come out of the store moments earlier, the chief said. A worker assisted her in putting packages into her car, he said.

She started the car and put it into gear “and we don’t know what happened next,” Regino said.

“Detectives are still at the scene,” he said just before 5 p.m.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was at the scene because of the severity of the victim’s injuries, Regino said.
