State Police confirmed that they were called just after 3 a.m. to milepost 62.7 of Route 80 in Saddle Brook, just west of Exit 62.

Two lanes were closed for nearly four hours before the full highway was reopened.

“We’re trying to determine the location of the shooting, among other factors,” NJSP Trooper Jeff Flynn said.

Troopers and local police found blood on the shoulder of the road, then began searching for bullet casings, a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“Apparently, there was a dispute inside a vehicle, which led to the vehicle stopping on the side of the highway,” the source said. “Then they all apparently drove to HUMC.”
