Joseph Gioffre of Fairview was driving his 1992 Nissan south on Bergen Boulevard near the WOW Fitness Center Thursday afternoon when his car struck the woman at the intersection of Park Avenue.

Gioffre, 52, kept driving, however, and didn’t stop until after making a left onto Morningside Avenue.

The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was treated for serious
leg injuries, Police Chief Frank Del Vecchio said.

An investigation by Fairview Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident unit led to a criminal charge of assault by auto, in addition to several summonses.

Gioffre, who initially told police he didn’t realize he’d hit someone, was released without bail pending a Feb. 8 Municipal Court hearing.
