Storm nearly kills cop

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: A police officer headed down a dark street in his radio car cheated death — by an instant.

“It was around 3 o’clock,” New Brunswick Patrolman Nick Cevasco told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “A tree fell 5 seconds after I drove past.

“It could’ve killed me.”

“It was scary (stuff).”

Cevasco needed his adrenaline to flush fairly quickly: He’s due back in at noon.

Perhaps the oddest call of the night: A man said he was talking to a distraught woman who vowed to jump into the Passaic River in Nutley before she suddenly ran off.

Police later found her walking along Route 21.
